.......................EDGE Core Member Ministry Description.........................

Ministry Overview: The EDGE Core team members are the heart and soul
of this middle school youth ministry experience. In teams of two or
three, EDGE Core members lead small group discussions, crafts, skits,
and other activities at The EDGE. Session plans are distributed to core
members a week in advance so core members may review and prepare
each session for their small group. EDGE Core members remain with the
same group of middle school youngsters throughout the entire year. This
allows Core members and middle school youth the opportunity to
develop strong meaningful relationships. Core members are given the
option to volunteer in leading opening and closing prayers, performing
skits, or giving witness/catechetical talks to the large group.

Ministry Requirements:
1. A love for Christ and middle school youth
2. A desire to minister to middle school youth on a weekly basis
3. A willingness to serve as a Christian role model
4. A weekly commitment to Sunday liturgy

Ministry Expectations:
1. Attend annual Core team retreat/training day and other necessary
meetings during the year.
2. Attend EDGE Night every Sunday from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. (immediately

3. Attend the annual EDGE retreat (to be determined by the Core
Team).
4. Welcome middle school youth to The EDGE and seek to find Jesus in
them.
5. As outlined in each week's session plan, be prepared to lead your
group through discussion questions, small group activities, skits, and/or
craft activities.
6. Develop strong caring relationships with the middle school youngsters
in your group by facilitating meaningful group discussion and individual
interaction.
7. Create a Christian environment at The EDGE.
8. Follow The EDGE discipline policy and work with youth ministers if
discipline issues arise.
9. Act as a liaison between The EDGE and parents.
10. Contact parents/middle school youth when a youngster in your small
group misses an EDGE Night.

"It was not you who chose me, but I who Chose you." John 15:16

Core Member Expectations

Be Committed….
+ Block out Sunday night for the 5 PM LifeTeen Mass, followed by The
Edge
A sample time schedule commitment:
--From 6:15 to 6:20 welcome, greet, and talk to kids.
--From 6:20 to 7:25 core members are ministering to the youth in their
group.
--From 7:25 to 7:35 core members patrol church grounds to insure
everyone's safety or clean up the church.
--From 7:35 to 7:40 review the night and discuss the next week's
session plan.

+ Dedicate yourself to The Edge and to the kids for one full year.

Be In Relationship….
+ Know the names of your kids and the other core members.

+ Get to know your kids' "stories" and share your own. When one of
your kids misses an Edge Night, call them and encourage them to come
next week. Reach out to your middle school youth in your group, accept
and nurture them, challenge them to do their best.

+ Challenge your kids to develop a deeper relationship and commitment
to Jesus and the Catholic Church.

+ Get to know the parents of your kids. Act as the liaison between The
Edge and parents.

+ Find Christ in each of your kids and share that awareness with others.

+ When there are conflicts, be willing to discipline when necessary,
remain positive, and see Edge youth ministers for help if needed.

Be Willing….
+ To open yourself to new experiences, try something you've never
tried before. Opportunities exist to lead prayer, present to the large
group and perform in outrageous skits!

+ To risk, to be silly and goofy for the Gospel, but at the same time
remaining the adult in the group!
