Dear EDGE Parents,

Happy Summer! EDGE has unofficially been suspended for the summer months,
HOWEVER there are a few SUMMER EVENTS for you to put on your calendar
now! Any changes to this letter will be e-mailed.

1. Lifeteen heads for Jamaica on Saturday June 3. EDGE has been asked to
meet them for 8AM mass and host donuts and coffee in the Youth Activity
Room to send them off in love and prayer and support. Please join me and my
family to make this special for the teens and Core. (I'm going to look pretty
pathetic all by myself, if you don't come! I promise, I'll get the fancy donuts
and make all the coffee!!!)

2. OPEN YOUTH ROOM NIGHTS, every Sunday night in JUNE, JULY & AUGUST
(except on holiday weekends). Anyone entering the 6th-12th grade this Fall
are welcome to join us in the Youth Activity Room in the Claussen Family
Center for indoor and outdoor games, music, soda, cookies, friends, and fun!
6:15-7:30 PM. (We need parents to volunteer to supervise the kids one night
each. If you can help, please call us with the date that you can serve.)

3. ROCK THE UNIVERSE. Sept.10 & 11. We will charter a bus with the Lifeteen
youth to Universal Studios in Orlando on Saturday Sept. 10. Arrive at the park
around 4PM to ride the rides and listen to the lineup of Christian Rock bands
until the park closes. Then we will spend the night in Orlando and visit the
Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine on Sunday then return to St. John in time
for our Lifeteen Mass at 5PM. More details on itinerary and package deals for
transportation, park tickets, and hotel accommodations are forthcoming.

4. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!! Parent Orientation for new EDGE members is
Sunday August 20. Please plan to come to the Seminar Room for a 30 minute
Q&A session immediately following the 5 PM Mass (6:30-7). The Youth Room
will be open that night for your kids, as well! This would be a great time to
bring your spouse, your neighbors, parents of your child's friends who would
benefit from joining the EDGE and possibly consider joining the EDGE Core
team.

5. Fall Training. Kevin McGloin, founder and author of EDGE, will be training the
Core Team on Saturday, August 26 9-4 PM in the Seminar Room. You will be
e-mailed a registration flyer with more details next month. Training is free to
St. John Core, Other area churches will be invited for a small fee. Please mark
this on your calendar now, so we can form the best Core possible for next Fall!

6. Fall commitments to EDGE. Our topics next Fall are The History and Meaning
of the Mass, with issue night or game night every other week, starting Sept.
17th. We have found that trying to serve dinner was a burden and a
distraction. Therefore, we are going to shorten EDGE to end at 7:30 to not
intrude on the dinner hour as much. Cookies and soda will be served during the
meetings only.

7. I invite all parents to make WWW.lifeteen.Com your homepage for you and
your teen! There's even an EDGE tab. It's packed full of current and
informative topics with a Catholic perspective for both you and your teen! It's a
great alternative to some of the questionable and down right raunchy internet
sites that we want our teens to avoid! This is a better choice for them. Try it!
